Life sciencesConjectureIllustrative scenario

How a lab could use Conjecture to rule out the obvious explanation first.

The challenge

Three competing explanations for a catalyst's activity, and budget for only a few experiments.

The approach

  1. 01Conjecture reviews prior papers for each explanation.
  2. 02It ranks experiments by cost and how decisive they are.
  3. 03The team runs the top-ranked equal-area comparison first.

The outcome

One explanation is ruled out in a single experiment, and the failed hypothesis stays on record.

Why the reasoning trace matters

When experiments are expensive, the order you run them in matters. Ranking experiments by how decisive each result would be means the first one can remove a whole explanation, rather than add weak support to all three.

How a team could start

A team could start with one open question and its competing explanations. The plan, the results and the hypotheses that failed all stay with the team.

This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer account. It shows how a team could use Conjecture; we will publish real stories, with permission, as they happen.
